Sophie Hillstrom – Violin and Viola

Sophie holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria, where she studied viola with Joanna Hood. She is passionate about helping students develop strong technical foundations alongside confidence, perseverance, and a growth mindset. Sophie tailors her teaching to each individual student, recognizing that every musician brings unique strengths and learning styles to their journey. Above all, she prioritizes fostering a genuine love of music.
An active performer, Sophie has served as Principal Violist of the University of Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Victoria, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra. Sophie is a dedicated chamber musician and performs regularly throughout Victoria. She also specializes in Historically Informed Performance in baroque music, having participated in the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program and attended the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute.
