Chris Newman – Guitar, Mandolin, Bass

“Playing music is a never-ending source of enjoyment and growth, and a challenge worth taking. The more you put into it, the more fun it gets!”

Chris Newman – Guitar Instructor at South Island Studio

Chris takes a holistic approach to teaching; listening skills are key, as well as reading and theory. He’s curious about learner interests and enjoys adapting to whatever goals his students bring. His knowledge of genres and eras covers a wide range - classic rock, pop, metal, alternative, punk, classical, funk, folk, blues, country, bluegrass, world, and jazz.

Chris has played guitar for over twenty years and plays mandolin, fiddle, bass, and drums. He is currently finishing up a diploma in music performance at the Victoria Conservatory of Music (Dec 2025) and is a member of the Victoria Bluegrass Association.
