St Matthias Hall

Sept 15 - Dec 1. 12 one hr classes. Tuesdays 6:30- 7:30

Designed for guitarists and bassists who want to understand their instrument clearly.

Putting theory into practical musical situations are explored, as well as explained, in weekly courses that can be taken on their own, or to compliment individual lessons.

Ian's course in music theory, explaining the relationships of notes and chords, rhythms and dynamics is infectious. Students go away with an expanded understanding of what they are playing on their instrument and how to interact with other musicians. This course focuses on group interactions, roles of instruments, listening skills, chord building, and melodic ideas, to give you a stronger understanding of how to apply your ideas to the music you're playing.

Taught with an easy to understand methodology the lessons are broken down in parts to help you understand what is happening, even if you've never taken a theory lesson!

1. Understanding the Scales and Modes.

2. Creating Chords.

3. Understanding Rhythms and Creating Space.

4. Creating Melodic Ideas Over Chord Changes.
