Sep 2017 Newsletter

Welcome to the 2017-18 music lesson year!

We're excited to be underway with a great line-up of teachers welcoming many new and returning students.

In addition to our private lessons on guitar, piano, voice, drums, bass, and flute, we have a number of playing and practicing Workshops, Performances, Camps, and classes on offer this year.

In order of start date, here is what's coming up...

WED Sep 20 - Rockshop Band Camps. After school 3:30 and 4:30 ( 1 hr rehearsals ) start for youth bands learning great pop and rock repertoire, current and classic songs. 3:30 Band, ages 11-13, 4:30 Band, ages 14-17. Performance at Winter Concert on Dec 3. There's nothing better than playing with others to bring practice into focus and to improve musicianship. This weekly 1 hr rehearsal pacts a lot into it and gives students an opportunity to learn new music together, improve listening, work in a group, learn how to choose music that's suitable and challenging, and have a great time in the process.

SAT Sep 23 - 11:00 AM  Daniel's True Exuberance Musicians: Ages 4 - 5 Group Class for kids and parents. Explore music and rhythm together in a super fun group using instruments, percussion, and voices. A great into to musicianship for our youngest learners!!

SAT Sep 30 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 Blues Guitar Study Group and Jam with Paul Mowbray. Learn some new rep and play it together with a great group of players. We take it slow and always cover some interesting music and music history. We play a good amount in the 2 hrs so all around it's a great morning of making music on guitar...acoustic or electric welcome.

SAT Sep 30 - 4:00 - 5:30 PM  Songwriting: Dylan's Acoustic Guitar with Paul Mowbray. (Part 1) Paul breaks down Bob Dylan's guitar playing on a number of his most influential acoustic pieces, and you'll use the analysis as inspiration and formulation to write your own song(s). It's a great exercise and one that all of the best songwriters have done. That is to study other songwriters and then use the insight to create their own work. Paul's workshop website:

SAT Sep 30 -  1:00 - 2:30 PM   Jon Miller's Jazz Cosmos: A weekly study of Jazz standards with our esteemed drummer and bandleader. Delve into the rhythm sections role and the soloist's exploration of melody and improvisation. Intermediate or better skills, music reading is also recommended though not absolutely necessary. Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys, Vocalists and any horn players also welcome.

SUN Oct 1 - 2:00 PM Imagine Cafe Mini Concert: an opportunity for students to play in a beautiful little cafe and their family and friends to sit back, listen, and indulge in some lovely treats and coffee. It's always beneficial to play for others so it's a wonderful way to practice performing and gain experience in that realm. It's safe, supportive and quite a delight for all involved. Ask your teacher more about it to help you decide on which piece or two to play.

Let us know if you are interested or have any questions about the above items, see you soon, and once again, welcome to this new season.

Thank you!
