Kim Denness-Thomas - Voice
“Music has always moved me. I’m told I could sing before I could talk. It is a part of everything I do.
My goal as your vocal coach is to help you connect with the music that moves you, with a voice that is confident and authentically yours.
Together, we sing our dreams into being”
Training & Experience
Kim's vocal instruction started at an early age with the legendary Ralph Cole, founding member of the Nylons.
A multi-talented recording artist and vocal coach, Ralph educated Kim in Classical, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Contemporary vocal styles. Over 9 years, he and other inspiring mentors, helped form the foundation of her work as a vocal coach and singer today.
Kim focused on Fine Arts at the University of Victoria, but she never stopped singing. Her voice has been heard on CBC's Definitely Not The Opera and on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. She’s performed as both lead and back up vocalist. 'The Sweetgrass Girls', 'King Bong', and 'Check Point Charlie' are just a few of the bands she has appeared with in her performing and recording career that spans over 20 years.
In addition to teaching, Kim loves her work as mentor to the Wild Heart Music Program (Port McNeill), and facilitator for the 'Goddess Sings' Workshops in Victoria.
When not singing, you can find Kim directing, managing or coaching. She is the founder of Tumbleweeds Youth Theatre Co, she manages the arts programs for youth with Autism at the Mosaic Learning Society, and works in film/TV as an acting coach for May St. Productions.
Kim has a passion for music that is contagious and hopes to share that with every student she has the pleasure of working with.
