Al Kornelson - Piano
“ My goal as a piano teacher is to foster a love for music in my students and allow students’ goals to drive the direction of their lessons, while ensuring that students learn the skills essential to piano playing. I believe in providing students with a range of musical genres to play from in order to both create an engaging learning environment and to expose my students to the wide variety of music available to them as musicians. ”
I grew up in a musical household, starting violin lessons with my father at an early age and switching primarily to piano at age 8. My piano teachers growing up instilled in me both an ethic of hard work and a love of music that I hope to transfer on to my students. Though I was primarily classically trained in the Conservatory Canada method, I also learned to play in many popular styles as well. After completing my Grade 10 Conservatory Canada piano exam, I completed my BMus (Piano Performance) at the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta and an MA (Music and Culture) from Carleton University. I have ten years experience as an accompanist of choirs, vocalists, instrumentalists, church services, and musicals.
